You say yes
when you mean no

If you are exhausted from putting everyone else first, from apologising for things that are not your fault, from the fear of letting people down, this is where that changes. As a CBT Psychotherapist I help women understand why people pleasing took hold, and how to finally put it down.

Leanne Astbury, CBT Psychotherapist in Northwich

"People pleasing has nothing to do with kindness. It is a fear based way of staying safe. And we can trace it right back to where it started."

People pleasing is not a personality trait. It is a pattern you can change.

You work harder than anyone and still feel it is never quite enough. You lie awake replaying conversations. You say yes when everything in you is saying no. And you have tried to stop, but it keeps coming back.

That is not a failure of willpower. People pleasing is usually a protective response, something you learned early to keep yourself safe, accepted, out of trouble. It made sense once. It just costs you far too much now.

Through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy we go to the root of why you abandon yourself to keep others comfortable. When you understand that, boundaries stop feeling like something you have to force, and start feeling like something you are allowed.

Saying No

Not the scripts and the tricks, but the fear underneath that makes no feel dangerous. When that shifts, the word gets easier on its own.

Guilt & Over Apologising

The reflex to say sorry for existing. We follow it back to where it began and loosen its hold.

Self Worth

Think of self worth as the sponge base of a cake. Everything else, relationships, career, approval, sits on top. We build the base, so you stop earning your worth through what you do for others.

Things people often ask

Is people pleasing something therapy can actually change?

Yes. People pleasing is a learned pattern, and patterns can be understood and changed. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is well suited to this because it works with the thoughts and beliefs driving the behaviour, not just the behaviour itself.

Do you work with people pleasing specifically?

Yes, it is one of my core specialisms alongside perfectionism, anxiety and low self worth. I also wrote a CBT workbook on exactly this, Awaken Your Worth.

Do you offer sessions online?

Yes. I work with women across the UK online, and face to face in Northwich, Cheshire. You choose whichever suits you.

How much are sessions?

Sessions are 100 pounds each, pay as you go, with no minimum commitment.

Ready to stop abandoning yourself?

You do not have to have it all worked out to reach out. You just have to be ready to understand yourself differently.
