The finish line
keeps moving

If you hold yourself to a standard nobody else could meet, if good is never good enough, if the achievement never quite lands before you are on to the next thing, you are not lazy or ungrateful. You are exhausted. As a CBT Psychotherapist I help women change the pattern at its root.

Leanne Astbury, CBT Psychotherapist in Northwich

"Most perfectionists do not feel perfect. They feel like they are running a race where the finish line keeps moving."

Perfectionism is not high standards. It is fear in a smart outfit.

From the outside it can look like drive, like being on top of everything. Inside it feels like never being allowed to stop, like one mistake would bring the whole thing down. That is not ambition. That is anxiety, dressed up as productivity.

Perfectionism usually grew from somewhere, a belief that your worth had to be earned, that being enough depended on getting it right. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps you see that belief clearly and loosen it, so you can still care about your work without it costing you your peace.

I work with high achieving women in Northwich and online who are quietly burning out behind a life that looks fine. The work goes to the root, so the change holds.

Never Good Enough

The moving finish line, the achievement that never satisfies. We work out what is driving it and change it at the source.

Fear of Failure

The dread that one mistake defines you. When that eases, you get to try things without the weight of proving yourself each time.

Perfectionism & Burnout

Perfectionism is one of the fastest routes to burnout. We catch the pattern before it costs you your health.

"After spending most of my life as a perfectionist, which was causing day to day anxiety and eventually burn out, Leanne has not only helped me understand this behaviour, but has also helped me change my thoughts. My anxiety has now gone and I feel so much lighter."

Things people often ask

Can therapy help with perfectionism?

Yes. Perfectionism is driven by underlying beliefs about worth and failure, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is very effective at working with exactly those beliefs. We change the root, not just the habit.

Will therapy make me lose my drive?

No. This is a common fear. The aim is not to make you care less, it is to remove the fear that has been fuelling the work. Most people find they achieve just as much, with far less exhaustion.

Do you offer perfectionism therapy online?

Yes, online across the UK and face to face in Northwich, Cheshire.

How much are sessions?

Sessions are 100 pounds each, pay as you go, no minimum commitment.
